Back in Ancient Rome, people would watch how chickens peck at grains to predict the future. ππΎ And this craft was called alectryomancy.
A diviner would scatter grains, seeds, or even small pieces of food on the ground and observe the behavior of chickens as they pecked at the offerings.
Various factors would determine the outcome: the direction in which the chickens moved, the number of grains they consumed, and the order in which they ate.
While alectryomancy involved interpreting the random pecking patterns of chickens to gain insights, people analytics, on the other hand, utilizes data-driven analysis to uncover patterns and trends in human behavior and workforce dynamics.
Where diviners once used their intuition and imagination to interpret the seemingly random actions of chickens, we rely on data and statistical techniques to interpret employee behavior, performance, and workforce dynamics.
But despite the different data sets we and Ancient Romans look at, there might be one thing in common: the most unexpected patterns and insights can emerge when we explore beyond the conventional metrics.
